Major: Biology and Music
Year in School: Junior
Hometown: Springfield, MO
I knew I wanted to attend UWP since sixth grade. I was in the UWP pre-college program where I got a taste of college life and the opportunities that come with it. Approximately 100 kids from urban areas in Milwaukee and Madison attend UWP pre-college every year. For the past two years, I have worked with the pre-college program and I am so happy to give kids the same great experience I had when I came to UWP every summer. Pre-college helped me pick a direction to go and now I’m there, helping other kids along the way.
It's my first year being a resident assistant and I am really enjoying it so far. I am a RA in Brockert Hall and have a great group of guys on my wing. Being a RA is a good on-campus job for me. I help residents adjust to university life while planning fun and engaging activities for the group. We have Monday Night Football nights and a big video game tournament coming up (my residents don’t think I’ll be able to beat them in Madden football). I have also gotten pretty proficient in bulletin board decorations. Any job where I can help others while having a good time is my kind of job.
A lot of people think I’m flat out crazy when I tell them that I am a double major in biology and music but I knew I had to keep music in my life once I got to college. I have been playing the drums since the age of three and now am in the UWP jazz band, in addition to my required music classes. My dream job is to be a marine biologist and the biology classes I have taken so far have given me hands-on experiences that I can apply to my future career. I like the fact that UWP makes it easy to major in two completely different things — it allows me to continue learning in my array of interests.
